Five years ago, John’s age was half of the age he will be in 8 years. How old is he now?

  • A.17
  • B.18
  • C.19
  • D.20

Answer: B

Let John's present age be  \(x\)

\(\therefore \) \(x-5=\) \(\frac{1}{2}\left ( x+8 \right )\)

\(\Rightarrow \) \(x-5=\) \(\frac{1}{2}x +4\)

\(\Rightarrow \) \(\frac{1}{2}x=9\)

\(\Rightarrow \) \(x=18\)

Hence, John's is 18 years old.
