Direction for [ Question No: 21 To 30 ] :

In each question below is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions, decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement and choose your answer accordingly.

21.

Statement: "Use Riya cold cream for fair complexion." - An advertisement.

Assumptions:

1. People like to use cream for fair complexion.

2. People are easily fooled.

3. People respond to advertisements

Answer: D

Assumption I follows from the statement and so it is implicit. II is vague and so it is not implicit. Also, advertisements are given with the hope that people would know the qualities of the product and buy it. So, III is implicit.

22.

Statement: The Reserve Bank of India has directed the banks to refuse fresh loans to major defaulters.

Assumptions:

1. The banks may still give loans to the defaulters.

2. The defaulters may repay the earlier loan to get fresh loan.

3. The banks may recover the bad loans through such harsh measures.

Answer: C

Clearly, loans to only major defaulters is being refused. So, the banks may still give loans to some defaulters. Thus, I is implicit. Also, the RBI's decision is a measure to recover the previous loans, since one would have to clear the old debts so as to get a fresh loan. So, both II and III are also implicit.

Statement: The professor announced in the class that the next periodical examination will be held on 15th of the next month.

Assumptions:

1. All the students may appear in the examination.

2. The college will remain open on 15th of the next month.

3. The students can study till 15th of the next month to pass the examination

Answer: C

The statement mentions only the schedule of the examination. But this doesn't ensure full attendance of students on that day. However, this implies that the college will remain open on the date of examination to hold the same and that the students can study till that date to pass the examination. Hence, only II and III are implicit, while I is not.

Statement: Quality of life of a person is not dependent only on his wealth.

Assumptions:

1. The aim of most people is just to acquire more wealth.

2. There are some factors other than wealth which contribute to the quality of life.

3. Wealth does not contribute to the quality of life at all.

Clearly, I does not follow from the statement. So, it is not implicit. The statement mentions that quality of life does not depend only on wealth. Assumptions:

1. Catchy slogans appeal to people.

2. People are envious of their neighbours superior possessions.

3. People want to be envied by their neighbours.

Clearly, both I and II directly follow from the statement. Also, it is clear that people wish to buy a thing which they can be proud of. So, III is not implicit.

Statement: This book is so prepared that even a layman can study science in the absence of a teacher.

Assumptions:

1. A layman wishes to study science without a teacher.

2. A teacher may not always be available to teach science.

3. A layman generally finds it difficult to learn science on its own

Assumptions:

Assumptions:

1. Adventure stories are the only reading material.

2. Nobody loves reading any other material.

3. All are literate.

Statement: Let us increase the taxes to cover the deficit.

Assumptions:

1. The present taxes are very low.

2. Deficit in a budget is not desirable.

3. If the taxes are not increased, the deficit cannot be met.

Clearly, the statement shows that the present taxes are not sufficient to meet the deficit but they may still be high. So, I is not implicit. Since the statement talks of covering the deficit, so II is implicit. Also, the taxes are increased to meet the deficit. So, III is also implicit.

Statement: Delink degrees with jobs. Then, boys will think twice before joining colleges.

Assumptions:

1. Boys join college education for getting jobs.
